Discuss.
I think that we simply cannot contain the inevitable that once we reach a certain point, it will be possible for one man to destroy the earth. Think about the rate of succession we've been having with technology, continue this for another few thousand years.
We've only been on the planet for a short amount of time- with all the time we have left, anything could happen- anything most likely being at least one thing that is extremely traumatizing to the earth.
Anyways, your viewpoints?

Are you assuming that through technology, one man may gain the capability to produce a death ray or a supervirus? (Both of which are completely possible.)
It is inevitable that one day the Earth will die off, whether through direct or indirect actions on our part, or through events entirely out of our control. Only time will tell how it all will end. Until that day comes though, all we can do is guess.

A supervirus seems a lot more likely than a death ray.
From an fda.gov article:
"The increased prevalence of antibiotic resistance is an outcome of evolution. Any population of organisms, bacteria included, naturally includes variants with unusual traits--in this case, the ability to withstand an antibiotic's attack on a microbe. When a person takes an antibiotic, the drug kills the defenseless bacteria, leaving behind--or "selecting," in biological terms--those that can resist it. These renegade bacteria then multiply, increasing their numbers a millionfold in a day, becoming the predominant microorganism."
Bacteria have become more resistant to drugs than they were decades ago. Due to this, many more people end up with longer hospital stays with potential complications, and perhaps even death by a ravaged lung or a damaged heart valve. Like Spenner said, it will one day be inevitable and lead to the downfall of humankind.

I personally think we should stop worrying about the end and worry about now. We're all going to die. Whether it's in my lifetime or not the world ends, I don't care.

I got really pissed off walking through a Barnes And Noble the other day. I walked past about 8 books talking about the whole Mayan calendar 2012 thing. I almost called a lady stupid for pulling one out. I was going to scold her, saying "That book is a waste of your money. If the apocalypse comes, you'll die and the book will be of no use to you, and if it doesn't, you'll look like a dumbass for having bought into the whole thing."
